Fun Facts - The Origins of Halloween 🎃

Did you know that Halloween’s origins date back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain? Celebrated on October 31st, Samhain marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter—a time when the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead was thought to be blurred. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming spirits.

As the tradition made its way to America, it became what we now know as Halloween, with spooky costumes, trick-or-treating, and pumpkin carving.

💡 Answer to Trivia Question:

Turnips!
In Ireland and Scotland, people would carve turnips and other root vegetables to ward off evil spirits. When immigrants brought the tradition to America, they discovered pumpkins, which were easier to carve, and the rest is history!
