Trivia Question

What popular winter cocktail is traditionally made with butter, dark rum, and spices?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Drink of the Week: Chai Bourbon Flip

A rich, comforting twist on a holiday flip. This one’s creamy and spiced with a velvety finish—like your favorite sweater in cocktail form.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon

  • 1 oz brewed chai (strong, cooled)

  • 0.5 oz maple syrup

  • 1 whole egg

  • Dash of nutmeg

  • Optional: 0.25 oz cream for extra richness

  • Garnish: Grated nutmeg or cinnamon stick

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients (except garnish) to a shaker without ice and shake hard to emulsify.

  2. Add ice and shake again until well chilled.

  3. Strain into a coupe or mug. Garnish with nutmeg or cinnamon.

Smooth, warming, and deeply sippable.

🥚 Cocktail Tip: Eggs & Alternatives in Drinks

Cocktails like flips or sours often call for eggs, not for flavor, but for texture. The egg adds richness, silkiness, and that signature foam top.

  • Always use fresh, cold eggs

  • If concerned about safety, use pasteurized eggs

  • Shake without ice first (dry shake) to emulsify, then shake with ice

Alternative: Aquafaba
→ Use 1 oz of aquafaba (chickpea brine from a can) instead of egg.
It creates nearly identical froth and works well in vegan-friendly cocktails.
